As part of her farewell tour, French Ambassador to Lebanon, Anne Grillo, paid visits to the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berry, and Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Monday.

These meetings took place one day before the arrival of President Emmanuel Macron’s special envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, for his second visit to Lebanon.

After her meeting with Mikati, Grillo stated, “During this farewell visit, we reviewed the past three years and the fruitful Franco-Lebanese cooperation. We also discussed the current situation in Lebanon, preparing for the upcoming visit of the French envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian.” Furthermore, the ambassador described the meeting as “constructive.”

Having served in Lebanon since October 2020, Grillo’s mission will conclude in August 2023. She will then take on the role of Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris. She emphasized her commitment to “closely monitor the Lebanese dossier” in her new position.

Herve Magro, the current French Ambassador to Turkey since June 2020, will succeed Grillo as the new French Ambassador to Lebanon.
