The Internal Security Forces (ISF) have successfully foiled a drug smuggling attempt at Beirut airport.

The suspect was apprehended with 1,266 kilograms of cannabis, which he cleverly concealed as rectangular cubes wrapped in transparent white nylon.

The drugs were hidden inside chocolate packaging in his cargo and shoulder bags while he was on his way to Turkey.

During the investigation, the suspect admitted to being part of a transportation operation involving goods between Turkey, Lebanon, and Syria. He presumably was unaware of the drugs concealed within the chocolates, and had been entrusted with transporting the goods to Turkey by an individual in the same field.

Further investigation conducted by the Central Anti-Narcotics Office in the Judicial Police Unit led to the suspect’s confession of drug smuggling concealed within the chocolates. Twenty more boxes of the same chocolates were discovered, containing pieces of cannabis intended for smuggling abroad.

In response, a police team immediately raided a location near the airport road, a region controlled by Hezbollah, where an additional 24 kilograms of cannabis were seized.

Moreover, two other individuals involved in the smuggling operation were arrested in coordination with the Special Forces.

The authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining culprits under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
