Day laborers of Lebanon’s Electricity Company (EDL) held a sit-in on the morning of Thursday, July 20, outside the building of the public power supplier to demand an increase in their daily wages.

The protest was held in the presence of President of the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL) Bechara Asmar.

The protesters are demanding to be granted the same rights as other civil servants.

They say that they have made numerous attempts to improve their wages in line with the updated wage standards for the year 2023/2024, to no avail, as their remuneration still stands at 410,000 LBP.

“We have already warned against infringing upon workers’ rights and their wages in particular,” read a statement issued on Wednesday evening.
