MPs Melhem Khalaf, Najat Aoun Saliba, Elias Jradeh, Yassin Yassin, and Firas Hamdan denounced on Sunday what they described as “Israeli encroachment into the northern part of Al-Ghajar.” For many years, this village has straddled the border between Israel and Lebanon. Half of it is under Israeli control. “This is a grave aggression against Lebanon, a continuous assault on Lebanese sovereignty, and a blatant violation of all international treaties and resolutions. This is a matter that cannot be silenced or ignored”, they stated from the outskirts of Al-Ghajar.

The MPs, who reassert their “commitment to every inch” of Lebanon, stated that “the concept of sovereignty is indivisible, and we are all responsible for all Lebanese territories.” “There should be no compromise or relinquishment of any inch of our land, water, or national resources, which belong to the entire Lebanese people,” the MPs added.

They condemned the government’s “timid, lax, and hesitant stance in the face of this dangerous event,” and called on it once again to “exercise all forms of pressure, without any delay, to immediately lift this blatant usurpation.” They commended the role of the Lebanese Army in “confronting Israel and its ambitions,” urging the Army to “strengthen its ability to resist occupation, solidify its legitimacy on all Lebanese territories, and demonstrate its capability to confront all those who violate Lebanon’s dignity, security, and stability.”

In conclusion, the MPs emphasized the “need to establish and consolidate a responsible state that protects and defends all its citizens, exercises its effective sovereignty and firm authority through its constitutional institutions, and safeguards its borders in line with national standards.”
