Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian warned on Wednesday, July 5, against “hesitation and delay in handling the presidential election, as responsibility falls upon all concerned parties.”

The Mufti said that waiting for a settlement regarding the election will lead to further deterioration and disintegration of the State.

“Dialogue within constitutional frameworks should lead to a solution,” he went on to say, and added that delay and intransigence are no longer acceptable.

What Lebanon needs is a mix of consultation, communication and mutual concessions according to Mufti Derian.

“The State’s institutions have reached a critical level, and if left unaddressed, will lead to chaos and financial ruin, potentially reaching a point of no return.”

Sheikh Derian highlighted Arab countries’ wishes to help Lebanon, as he insisted that we should not miss the opportunity to cooperate with countries eager to help us.

“There is a danger looming, and we need to rise and find solutions,” he warned.
