Lebanon’s ambassador to France, Rami Adwan, was recalled to Beirut and relieved of his duties on June 8. Adwan is the subject of an investigation, following allegations made against him in Paris by two former embassy staff members who accuse him of rape as well as verbal and physical abuse.

The incident has sparked both internal administrative and external French judicial investigations. A delegation from the Lebanese Foreign Ministry was sent to Paris to follow up on Adwan’s situation. The delegation’s aim was to collect testimonies from embassy officials and to meet the concerned French authorities in order to take the necessary decisions.

With the ongoing investigations against Adwan, sources at the Ministry report that a judicial investigation in Lebanon is nonexistent due to the absence of a lawsuit and of charges against Adwan.
