Lebanon’s Security Forces seized some 450,000 captagon tablets intended for smuggling to a Gulf country. The pills were planned to be transported through Beirut Port via Kinshasa (DRC), the Internal Security Forces (ISF) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Following thorough inspections and inquiries, authorities identified the shipping agency in charge of exporting the package, as they managed to locate the warehouse where the illicit shipment was stored in the “Cocodi” neighborhood of Beirut’s southern suburb, a stronghold of the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

The storehouse, where three electric-powered lifting engines (winches) were found, was successfully raided by the division’s specialized team on June 19 following meticulous surveillance.

Several people implicated in the illicit business were arrested, and investigation is still ongoing to identify other members of the smuggling network, the statetement added.
