French President Emmanuel Macron’s special envoy, Jean-Yves le Drian, met upon his arrival to Beirut, on Wednesday, with Speaker Nabih Berry. Talks focused on the deadlock over the presidential election.

According to sources in Aîn el-Tiné, the meeting between the two men was “frank and positive”.

The first phase of his challenging mission ends on Friday.

The former foreign minister was met at the airport by French Ambassador Anne Grillo.

The press office at the French embassy announced earlier in the day that the schedule of Le Drian’s meetings with Lebanese officials and politicians will not be made public and that no press conference will be held at the end of his first round of talks which ends on Friday.
