On Wednesday, MP Abdel Rahman Bizri announced his support for a third candidate (other than Sleiman Frangieh and Jihad Azour) for president, noting that negotiations were underway in this regard.

“We hope the next president will be distant from all political bickering,” Bizri said to MTV news.

The MP believes that no political party will boycott the election session on Wednesday, June 14th. He stated: “We will not be part of any attempt to break the quorum regardless of the outcome of the session.”

He argued that the principle of a government of national unity is not sustainable as it leads to “splitting the cake” (among political leaders), adding that Lebanon has a parliamentarian system and many Sunni candidates are suitable to form the next government.

When asked to comment on former president Michel Aoun’s visit to Damascus a day earlier, he replied that he had no information about the reasons for this visit, and that its outcome would be visible soon.

It is of importance to note that Bizri, as well as two other MPs representing the Saida-Jezzine region, namely Oussama Saad and Charbel Massaad, declared on Monday, June 5th that they will not vote in favor of either of the two candidates in the race.
