A delegation from Lebanon’s foreign ministry flew to Paris on Tuesday to follow up the case filed against Lebanese ambassador in France Rami Adwan on allegations of rape and intentional violence.

The ministry’s director Hani Chmaytelli, accompanied by inspection director ambassador Hadi Hachem, will be listening to the testimonies of the Lebanese embassy’s employees, including diplomats and administrators, as well as meeting French officials investigating the case.

On Monday, June 5, France made a formal request to lift the diplomatic immunity of Adwan who has served as Lebanon’s ambassador in Paris since 2017.

Adwan is currently under investigation for rape and intentional violence, following complaints made by two former employees of the Lebanese diplomatic mission in Paris. The case came to light on Friday, June 2, after French media outlet Mediapart revealed the allegations.

Adwan has denied all the allegations against him.
