Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has called for a meeting of the joint parliamentary committees next Wednesday, May 31st, at 10:30 a.m.
The two items on the agenda are:
-A bill presented by Deputy Fayssal Karameh regarding the establishment of a new fund to assist the underprivileged. This fund would be financed by a three-percentage-point increase of VAT.
The meeting of the joint committees last Tuesday was adjourned due to a lack of quorum before making a decision on this bill, and a subcommittee is expected to be formed to study it.
-A bill amending the law on the National Social Security Fund, which aims at replacing end-of-service benefits with a retirement system.
