Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdullah Bou Habib met Monday with the Cardinal Secretary of State of Vatican City, Pietro Parolin, in Rome.

Bou Habib and Parolin discussed conditions and developments in the Middle East, underlining Lebanon’s presidential vacancy and possible solutions.

The Lebanese Minister also met with Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, and the two addressed regional issues and the current situation in Lebanon.

Bou Habib received the Vatican’s support to accelerate the presidential election as a necessary step towards reform.

The Vatican highlighted the importance of continuing dialogue and promoting an atmosphere of understanding to find sustainable and just solutions to the crises in the Middle East.
