General Joseph Aoun will remain at the head of the army for another year.
Parliament approved on Friday a bill that will keep the heads of the security services in their respective posts at the rank of major general.
The bill, proposed by the National Moderation bloc, provides for a one-year postponement of the retirement of “current or acting heads of the security services at the rank of general or major general”.
In addition to Joseph Aoun, this would benefit both directors generals of the Internal Security Forces, Imad Osman (who holds the rank of major general and is due to retire next May) and of the General Security, Elias Baissari.
