The Price Index Committee, which met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of caretaker Minister of Labor Moustafa Bayram, approved an increase in the minimum wage in the private sector and a one hundred percent increase in school allowances.

It was thus agreed to increase the minimum wage from LBP 9 to 18 million, which will be fully declared to social security and included in the basic salary. It was also decided to increase school grants. For the children of employees attending public schools, the amount for each pupil (up to four) is now LBP 4 million, and for those attending private schools, this allowance will rise from LBP 6 million to 12 million, for the 2024-2025 school year.

At the end of the meeting, Bayram indicated that his ministry would send a draft decree to the Council of State and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. He assured that it had been agreed with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to put it on the agenda for the next meeting of the Council of Ministers.
