Profits made by the two mobile operators Alfa and Touch increased by tens of millions of dollars year-on-year while expenses were reduced, saving millions of dollars which were transferred to the Treasury.

The financial conditions of the two mobile operators were on the agenda of the parliamentary Information and Telecommunications Committee, which met on Thursday under the chairmanship of MP Ibrahim al-Moussawi, in the presence of caretaker Minister of Telecommunications Johnny Corm, as well as the CEOs of telephone operators Alfa and Touch Jad Nassif and Salem Itani.

The MPs present praised “the efforts made by the management and employees of the two operators” and called on the Ministry “to undertake work to improve the quality of communications,” believing that this must be “a priority for the Ministry because of its significant impact on the economic situation.”

Corm pledged that “this year, the Ministry will work to improve networks and develop the service, in order to provide users with better quality services.”

“The profits made by the two operators are further proof that state institutions can serve as a model of success if they draw up appropriate plans and implement them,” Al-Moussawi added.
