The head of the union of workers and distributors in the gas sector, Farid Zainoun, called on caretaker Energy Minister Walid Fayad on Monday to “revive the decision taken in 2015 to replace domestic gas cylinders,” noting that “displaced Syrians have brought in almost 1.5 million defective cylinders from Syria.”

Zainoun pointed out that nearly five million gas cylinders have already been replaced in Lebanon and that this number is set to rise, as many people continue to exchange cylinders that are over 30 years old for new ones.

The trade unionist pointed out that replacement costs, set at one dollar per gas cylinder, are still the norm.
