Caretaker Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin said that for the first time in Lebanon’s history, a proactive emergency plan has been drawn up to ensure preparedness across all sectors in the event of a war outbreak.

Asked about the funding for this initiative, he noted during an interview with the local radio station Voice of Lebanon that the government is in discussions with the Finance Ministry and international organizations to obtain the necessary funds, especially in the event of an expansion of displaced operations.

Yassin said that there are three ways to finance this plan. The first one is using the Treasury to extend credit and alleviate urgent issues, the second one is seeking support from UN organizations, and the third is requesting essential financial support from international organizations and the Lebanese authorities in order to implement every aspect of this plan.

He also pointed out that the caretaker Finance Minister Youssef Khalil is working to increase the Ministry’s revenue to support the plan.

Yassin highlighted that although international organizations can provide aid to a large number of displaced persons, “we will need more funding if their numbers increase.”

He also reiterated that Lebanon is unable to cope with war and that it is necessary to avoid it.
