Céline Dion condemned Donald Trump’s unauthorized use of her Titanic anthem at a campaign rally, drawing social media backlash.

Céline Dion voiced her disapproval after Donald Trump used her iconic song, My Heart Will Go On, from the film Titanic, during a rally in Montana on Friday. The rally, which featured a video of Céline Dion performing the song on a large screen, quickly became a target of widespread ridicule on social media.

Dion’s management and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada, responded swiftly, issuing a statement on X declaring that the use of the song and video was “in no way authorized.” The statement added, “Céline Dion does not endorse this or any similar use… And really, THAT song?”

The unauthorized use of the song led to a flurry of online comments, with many drawing parallels between Trump’s campaign and the doomed ship from the James Cameron film. Trump’s campaign has been struggling since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate for the White House. Initially, Trump appeared poised to reclaim the presidency, but Harris has gained significant traction, especially after announcing Tim Walz, Minnesota’s governor, as her running mate.

My Heart Will Go On, originally released on Dion’s album Let’s Talk About Love and the Titanic soundtrack, remains one of the best-selling singles of all time, with 18 million copies sold. The song earned Dion an Oscar, a Golden Globe and several Grammy Awards.

Dion, who was forced to cancel several shows in 2023 and 2024 due to health issues, recently thrilled fans by performing L’hymne à l’amour at the opening of the Paris Olympics, singing from the Eiffel Tower. This marked her first live performance since 2020, after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder.
