Emerging artist Andrea Haddad celebrates the five years of her project “Au fil des fleurs” with an event at Espace Matisse, combining exhibitions, artistic collaborations, and sharing her passion for embroidery.
Andrea Haddad, a young 23-year-old artist, is celebrating five years of her artistic project “Au fil des fleurs” with a pop-up event at Espace Matisse in Achrafieh on Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29. This space, where Andrea exhibited last year, is like home to her and embodies the values she believes in. It was therefore natural for Andrea to choose this place to present her work and share her passion.
A master’s student in global design at the Académie libanaise des beaux-arts (ALBA), where she also studied product design, Andrea turned her passion for embroidery into a full-fledged art form. “I love working with my hands, hence my love for needle and thread,” she says. “I started embroidering at the age of 12 to keep myself busy. But eventually, this hobby became a practice I wanted to take further.”
“Au fil des fleurs” is a project she launched in 2019, “as an expression of everything happening around me. I started embroidering on anything and everything.” The event “Moukhtasar moufid, all things embroidered” is a celebration of these five years of embroidery, “of laughter and tears, but also of the love of a community built in difficult times. And it is with this community that I want to celebrate.”
At this pop-up, Andrea Haddad presents three new collections. The first is a series of embroidered postcards, each individually framed, created from photos taken by 14 talented photographers, including Aya El Khoury, Vana Akhrabian, Pietro Bassil, Nagham Deek, Joya Simon, Anthony Nassar, Marc Dib, Murielle Waked, Nara Karkour, Zoe Bou Nader, Andrea Abdelnour, Ryan Bachaalany, Emilio Bou Onk and Marc Khalil. These artists gave her carte blanche to embroider on their black-and-white photos, creating unique pieces where Andrea’s colorful threads contrast with the photos’ sobriety.
The second collaboration features brightly colored embroidered pouches and tote bags, with illustrations by Nathalie Saoud, illustrator and friend of Andrea’s. Together, they created accessories that celebrate summer and the joy of life.
Finally, the third collection is the result of a collaboration with Second Base, a Beirut vintage clothing store. Andrea carefully selected second-hand shirts on which she embroidered delicate floral patterns, giving new life to these unique pieces.
The event will also be an opportunity to enjoy culinary creations by chef Rita Ghosn, Andrea’s friend, while DJ Malek Abi Nader will set the tone from 6 PM to 10 PM. Visitors can also learn the art of embroidery in a workshop led by Andrea Haddad on Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM (registration at 71/566413).
“We are open on Friday, June 28, from 5 PM to 10 PM and on Saturday, June 29, from 11 AM to 10 PM,” Andrea specifies. A great opportunity to discover the creative universe of this emerging artist, to meet the community she has gathered around her passion, and to celebrate with her these five years of creativity and sharing around embroidery. An event marked by poetry, transmission and generosity, far from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
