“It’s high time for the opposition to unite its ranks in a broad sovereignist front.” This was the spontaneous comment of a senior US official who was asked by a journalist about the reasons for Washington’s very lukewarm attitude to the Lebanese crisis, to the extent that the US Administration seems to be relying on France to find a way out of the crisis in Lebanon.

For the US official, the Lebanese are called upon to unite their ranks, clearly define their demands and form a broad sovereignist front that can confront the Iranian-led obstructionist axis. In this context, the same source advocates for a return to the national sovereignist climate that prevailed at the time of the March 14 Movement and the Kornet Chehwane Rally.

To put it plainly, the US official advocates the establishment of a Lebanese front, bringing together Christian and Muslim components, “because we are opposed to confessional and sectarian sorting.” The American official adds that “Lebanese leaders should restore Lebanon’s image and role abroad. What about the front that should be working to elect a sovereignist President of the Republic? The problem in Lebanon lies in the absence of a sovereignist Lebanese national project in the face of the obstructionist project.”

In conclusion, the US official denied any contact between the US Administration and Hezbollah, pointing out that the Shiite party is listed as a terrorist organization.
