The United Arab Emirates said Friday that Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the country injured three people, marking another serious escalation despite the ceasefire that took effect last month between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
In a statement posted on X, the UAE Ministry of Defense said its air defense systems intercepted “two ballistic missiles and three UAVs launched from Iran,” adding that the attack resulted in three moderate injuries.
The latest strike comes only days after earlier Iranian attacks targeted Emirati territory for the first time since the April 8 ceasefire, intensifying fears that the truce is rapidly deteriorating into a cycle of repeated confrontation.
Repeated attacks despite Iranian denials
Iran had previously denied responsibility for recent attacks on the UAE.
The incident follows earlier strikes Monday and Tuesday that targeted the UAE, including an attack on the Fujairah petroleum industrial zone that sparked a fire and injured three people.
At the time, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that four Iranian cruise missiles had been detected heading toward the country. Emirati forces said they intercepted three missiles over territorial waters, while a fourth fell into the sea.
In a separate incident earlier this week, Iranian drones targeted a tanker belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Ceasefire increasingly under strain
The renewed attacks come after the United States and Iran exchanged fire this week in what officials described as the most serious challenge yet to the fragile ceasefire brokered after the regional war erupted on February 28.
The Gulf Cooperation Council previously condemned Iranian attacks on the UAE, accusing Tehran of continuing destabilizing actions in the region. The UAE, meanwhile, has repeatedly stressed its right to defend its sovereignty and territorial security.
According to regional figures cited by Arab media, Iran launched roughly 2,800 missiles and drones toward the UAE between February 28 and the implementation of the ceasefire on April 8 following the outbreak of the Iran-Israel-U.S. war.
