Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Russia would do “everything” to help restore peace in the Middle East, during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Saint Petersburg.

“For our part, we will do everything that serves your interests, and the interests of all the peoples of the region, so that peace can be achieved as quickly as possible,” Putin said, according to Russian state media.

Araghchi, who is on a diplomatic tour to gather support amid the conflict with Washington, arrived Monday morning in Saint Petersburg, where the meeting took place.

Upon arrival, the Iranian minister accused the United States of having undermined peace talks in Pakistan.

“We see with what courage and heroism the Iranian people are fighting for their independence,” Putin also said, according to the TASS news agency.
