Elbit Systems announced on Thursday that it has been awarded a series of contracts worth approximately $200 million by the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) for the supply of advanced airborne munitions.
The contracts, disclosed in an official company statement, cover the delivery of air-launched weapon systems, reinforcing Elbit’s role as a key supplier to the Israeli Air Force.
This marks the third round of aerial munitions orders awarded to Elbit Systems in less than a year, bringing the total to more than $665 million as Israel accelerates military spending. The purchase comes as tensions mount following a number of commercial vessel interdictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Precision-Guided Capabilities
According to information published on its official website, Elbit Systems develops airborne precision-guided munitions designed for air-to-ground missions, incorporating technologies such as GPS and inertial navigation systems, laser guidance, and advanced electro-optical seekers. The company states that these systems are engineered to achieve a high degree of accuracy while limiting collateral damage, reflecting broader trends in modern air warfare.
Elbit Systems also identifies precision-guided munitions as a central component of its overall weapons portfolio, underscoring their importance within its range of defense solutions.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, Elbit Systems President and CEO Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis said the agreements reflect the firm’s position in the sector, emphasizing its “technological leadership in air-launched weapon systems” and its long-standing partnership with the Israeli defense establishment, helping maintain the Israeli Air Force’s operational edge.
