U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he would hold off on new strikes against Iran at the request of Pakistani officials, effectively extending the ceasefire as diplomatic efforts continue.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the United States agreed to delay further attacks on Iran following a request from Pakistan’s military and political leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He added that the pause would remain in place only until Iranian leaders present a “unified proposal.”
At the same time, Trump confirmed he has ordered U.S. forces to continue enforcing a naval blockade on Iran and remain prepared for renewed military action, signaling that the ceasefire is temporary and contingent on progress in negotiations.
The remarks come amid growing uncertainty over talks expected to take place in Islamabad. U.S. and Iranian officials have both warned that, without a breakthrough, fighting could resume as the current truce nears expiration.
The U.S. has maintained a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports and shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, a move Tehran has warned could be considered an “act of war.”
