Russian President Vladimir Putin called for de-escalation in the Iran conflict during a phone call on Tuesday with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, the Kremlin said.

"The President of Russia reaffirmed his principled position in favour of a speedy de-escalation of the conflict and for it to be resolved through political means," the Kremlin said in its readout of the call.

"Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its support, particularly for providing humanitarian aid to Iran," the Kremlin added, confirming Moscow has sent assistance to its ally Tehran.

The conversation follows a March 6 phone call between the two leaders where Putin offered condolences for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and pushed for a “immediate cessation of hostilities,” according to Asharq Al-Awsat.

Also on March 6, the Washington Post reported that Moscow had passed sensitive information to Iran, including the location of U.S. warships and aircraft in the region. The Kremlin declined to speak publically on the matter, but U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff told NBC today that Russia has denied the allegations.
