- U.S. Embassy Urges Americans to Leave Lebanon Immediately as Security Situation Deteriorates
The United States Embassy in Lebanon has issued an urgent advisory calling on U.S. citizens to depart the country immediately while commercial flights remain available, citing the “volatile and unpredictable security situation” in the region.
In a statement posted on X, the U.S. Embassy said the Department of State “urges U.S. citizens to depart Lebanon now while commercial options remain available” and warned Americans not to travel to Lebanon.
The embassy strongly encouraged U.S. nationals currently in southern Lebanon, near the Syrian border, in refugee settlements, and in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut to leave those areas immediately.
Commercial Airport Remains Open, For Now
The embassy noted that Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport remains open and that commercial flights are currently operating. However, it cautioned that flights “may be cancelled at any time,” advising Americans to check available options directly with carriers.
U.S. citizens who choose not to leave were urged to prepare contingency plans and to be ready to shelter in place if the situation worsens.
“These alternative plans should not rely on the U.S. government for assisted departure or evacuation,” the embassy said.
Departure of U.S. Personnel Already Ordered
The advisory follows a February 23 decision by the U.S. Department of State ordering the departure of family members and non-emergency U.S. government personnel from Lebanon.
The embassy also announced that all consular services, both routine and emergency, are currently suspended. It added that the U.S. government has “no ability to provide emergency services” to American citizens in Lebanon at this time.
