President Joseph Aoun on Tuesday said that the renewed confidence and support of foreign countries toward Lebanon is a natural outcome of ongoing efforts to rebuild the state on solid foundations, stressing that the rule of law and the exclusivity of weapons remain irreversible pillars of his agenda.
In his remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the “Sovereign Front,” Aoun underscored that these objectives are being pursued “rationally, realistically, and responsibly,” adding that there would be no retreat from the commitments he made in his oath of office.
He noted that the oath, which garnered support both domestically and internationally, places a heavy responsibility on him to remain faithful to its principles.
The president also reaffirmed his determination, in coordination with the Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister, to hold parliamentary elections starting on May 3. He dismissed concerns over proposals to postpone the vote, saying such matters fall within the prerogatives of the legislative authority. “I stand at an equal distance from all candidates and will not interfere in electoral alliances,” Aoun said, emphasizing that his role is limited to ensuring the integrity, security, and safety of the electoral process.
Addressing regional tensions, Aoun stressed that he is working with all concerned parties to prevent Lebanon from being drawn into a new war. He warned that the Lebanese people can no longer endure further conflicts and called for a realistic and rational approach in light of prevailing international circumstances to safeguard the country and its citizens. He expressed hope that efforts to shield Lebanon from danger would be met with understanding and constructive commitment.
