Jordan Rejects Use of Its Territory in Any Military Action Against Iran
Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi

Jordan signaled its position on a U.S.-Iran conflict scenario, stating on Monday that it would not take part in hostility against Iran and it would not allow use of its territory for launching attacks.

Ayman Safadi, the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated on X that “Jordan will not be a battlefield for any party in any regional conflict, or a launchpad for any military action against Iran.”

Amid U.S. threats to carry out military action against Iran and increased U.S. military buildup in the Middle East, regional states have been bracing for the possibility of being dragged into a war.

Jordan hosts the Muwaffaq Salti U.S. Air Base near Azraq in the country’s east. In the ongoing military buildup, the U.S. sent F-15E attack planes to Jordan to bolster its land-based striking capabilities.

In the 12-Day War between Israel and Iran in June 2025, ballistic missiles passed over Jordanian territory towards Israel with shrapnel falling on its territory, including one incident which injured five in Irbid. Two years ago, in January 2024, an Iranian-backed militia targeted the U.S. military installations at Tower 22 in northeast Jordan, killing three U.S. personnel.

These occurrences demonstrate that Jordan would be caught in the crossfire of a regional war and will experience the externalities of conflict even if it does not directly participate.

Iran also threatened to hit the “heart of Tel Aviv” if the U.S. launches attacks. Such a scenario would bring conflict with Iran to Jordan’s doorstep.

Other countries, notably the UAE and Saudi Arabia, have adopted similar positions in recent statements, ruling out involvement in a U.S.-Iran conflict.
