The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, on Friday approved the appointment of members to the Election Supervisory Authority and adopted a draft law on forests and pastures, merging three existing texts and strengthening the protection of green spaces, combating climate change, desertification, and preserving biodiversity, Information Minister Paul Morcos announced.
The session, held at the Grand Serail, brought together nearly all ministers and government officials. Afif Al-Hakim was appointed Chairman of the Election Supervisory Authority, Fadi Ghantous as Vice-Chair, and several other figures were named as members.
The Agriculture Minister raised concerns over the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, calling for strengthened vaccination campaigns and the suspension of livestock imports from affected countries, while monitoring of meat and dairy products was intensified.
Regarding recent tensions and international warnings over the risk of deterioration in Lebanon, Morcos noted that “these political issues are not necessarily included on the official agenda” and are being followed by the President, the Prime Minister, and the relevant ministers.
The next Cabinet meeting is scheduled for next Thursday.
