Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem used his Wednesday speech to reiterate the group’s role in Lebanon, framing its organization as an indispensable “shield” against Israel while sidestepping calls for disarmament.

In complete denial of ground reality, Qassem described Hezbollah as an “impenetrable barrier” against Israel, claiming the “resistance” alone has prevented invasions and thwarted Israeli objectives. He warned Lebanese officials not to confront or undermine the group, claiming it is the country’s sole defense against external threats.

“The highest form of patriotism in Lebanon is defending the homeland and liberating the land,” Qassem said, framing Hezbollah’s military presence as vital. He also credited the pro-Iranian group with helping usher in a new political era, including the recent presidential election and steps toward government formation.

Qassem also criticized Lebanon’s political leadership for allegedly ignoring Israeli threats, particularly citing attacks that reached Hermel, and accused the United States of attempting to hand over the country to Israel by pressuring Hezbollah to disarm.
