A Russian government delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, arrived on Tuesday at Damascus International Airport.

According to official Syrian news agency SANA, Novak is beginning a visit during which he will meet with several high-ranking Syrian officials. The discussions will mainly focus on economic, security and defense matters, as well as political relations between Moscow and Damascus.

This visit is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Russia and Syria, particularly in strategic sectors and post-conflict reconstruction.

Russia, a long-time ally of ousted President Bashar Assad, has maintained a military presence in Syria, including a major base on the Mediterranean coast. While Assad and senior figures fled to Russia during the final stages of the conflict, Moscow has worked to forge ties with the new administration in Damascus.
