The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Saturday the Lebanese government’s plan proposed by the army to restore the state’s monopoly on arms across all of its territory.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot held talks a day earlier with his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Raggi, to reaffirm France’s support for the disarmament plan issued on August 5.

France called on all Lebanese parties to support the peaceful and immediate implementation of this plan, aiming to transform Lebanon into a sovereign, reconstructed, and prosperous country, while ensuring its territorial integrity within agreed borders.

The Foreign Ministry said it would “continue to support the Lebanese authorities in fulfilling their commitments, through its participation in the November 2024 ceasefire monitoring mechanism, its support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, and its contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).”

France announced its readiness to organize two conferences to support the Lebanese Armed Forces and facilitate recovery and reconstruction when conditions allow.

The French government had previously renewed its call on Israel to fully respect its commitments under the ceasefire of November 26, 2024, and to withdraw from southern Lebanon.
