The road safety association YASA has issued a warning after documenting dozens of illegal openings in the central dividers of major highways across Lebanon, which have caused deaths and serious injuries over the past years.
In a statement released Thursday, YASA stressed: “Making an unexpected turn in the middle of a highway is equivalent to a suicide attempt or endangering the lives of others. These openings turn roads designed for high speeds into deadly traps.”
The association called on the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to seal these openings as quickly as possible to reduce the risk of severe accidents and protect drivers, passengers, and other road users.
