The Central Criminal Investigations Department has summoned activist William Noun for questioning after a complaint was filed against him on charges of inciting sectarian strife and violating the law on dealings with Israel.
In an interview, William Noun expressed surprise at being summoned based on a lawsuit filed by lawyer Hassan Ibrahim, known to be close to Hezbollah.
Noun explained that the complaint stemmed from his remarks on the anniversary of the port explosion. “These accusations are pure fabrication,” he said. “The confrontation with Hezbollah did not start today; it began on August 4, 2020 — and we will carry it forward without fear, despite all pressures.”
He asked, “Is describing reality now considered collaboration with the enemy?”
Despite what he described as an attempt to build a new political case against him, Noun voiced strong confidence in the current judicial leadership.
Noun confirmed that he will attend the interrogation session. He concluded by emphasizing that the families of the Beirut Port blast victims will stand by him on the day of the investigation, noting that the matter has gone beyond individuals to become a collective struggle for truth and justice.
