The Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced Wednesday the seizure of 156 cocaine-filled capsules weighing 3.4 kilograms, with an estimated street value exceeding $500,000 once mixed with other substances.
According to an ISF statement, the Central Anti-Narcotics Office uncovered an international network planning to smuggle the drugs from Nigeria to Lebanon via Ethiopia. The traffickers, identified as Nigerian nationals R.A. (born 1996) and L.N. (born 1977), allegedly swallowed the capsules before boarding their flight.
Under surveillance, the suspects arrived at Beirut International Airport (BIA) at dawn on July 24 and proceeded to a hotel in Keserwan to extract the drugs for delivery to a dealer. Acting on cross-verified intelligence and in coordination with the judiciary, ISF agents arrested both men in the act.
The detainees, along with the confiscated narcotics, were referred to the competent judiciary for legal action.
