The major outage that caused a nationwide blackout in Lebanon has been repaired.
Lebanon’s electricity company, EDL, confirmed that the malfunction — caused by a faulty high-voltage transformer at the Zouk thermal power plant due to humidity and extreme heat — has been resolved.
The gas and steam units at the Deir Ammar power plant have been reconnected to the grid, along with a gas unit at the Zahrani plant. Work is underway to bring the interchanging engines at the Zouk and Jiyeh plants back online, with operations expected to resume shortly.
EDL has begun gradually restoring power across all regions of the country, prioritizing essential infrastructure such as Rafic Hariri International Airport, water pumping stations, prisons, wastewater treatment plants, and courthouses.
Since Saturday night, EDL’s technical teams have been working around the clock to stabilize the grid and ensure a return to normal service.
EDL stressed that it is deploying all necessary resources to guarantee a stable electricity supply despite challenging weather conditions.
