
A devastating fire erupted on Sunday at a building in Faqra, Keserwan, causing three fatalities and six injuries, including three with severe burns.
The blaze broke out in a storage area containing diesel and thinner in the basement of a four-story residential and commercial building near the Faqra roundabout.
The victims are a woman, her daughter and a truck driver, all of Syrian nationality. They were found dead inside the building. Their bodies were transferred to Saint George Hospital in Ajaltoun, and the injured were taken to Our Lady of Lebanon University Hospital in Jounieh for treatment.
Civil Defense issued a statement highlighting the rapid and coordinated response led by Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmed al-Hajjar and Acting General Director of Civil Defense Brigadier General Nabil Farah.
Firefighters from multiple centers, including Faqra, Kfardebian, Ghazir, Rayfoun and Hrajel, arrived on the scene within minutes, combating dense smoke and highly flammable substances.
The fire was extinguished by 12:34 PM, but cooling efforts continued to prevent re-ignition.
Earlier in the morning at 4:30 AM, another fire broke out in a tent in the parking lot of the Spinneys building in Jnah. Fire crews swiftly contained the blaze within 30 minutes, preventing damage to the larger structure.
The Civil Defense reminded the public to follow safety precautions amid the ongoing heatwave and urged immediate reporting of emergencies via hotline 125 or WhatsApp at 70192693.
