The League of Public Administration Employees announced on Thursday the suspension of its strike movement for the current week. The decision follows a request made by the directors general and the submission of an urgent list of demands to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam ahead of an upcoming meeting.
In its statement, the League expressed hope for a “serious initiative” by the government aimed at bringing tangible improvements to public sector working conditions. However, it warned that a swift return to strike action remains possible, in coordination with key administrative bodies, should the authorities continue to “undermine the dignity” of public employees.
The movement began in early July, in response to what were seen as provocative salary increases granted to senior state officials, while the majority of civil servants, according to the League, have yet to recover incomes equivalent to their pre-2019 crisis wages.
