The Israeli army said Wednesday that it had killed a Hezbollah operative in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon, who it said was directing militant cells in Syria.

"Yesterday evening (Tuesday), the Israeli Air Force... struck Hossam Qasem Ghorab, a Hezbollah operative who operated from Lebanese territory to direct terrorist cells in Syria," the army said in a statement.

The Syria-based cells "planned to launch rocket attacks toward the Golan Heights," it added, referring to the area annexed by Israel following the 1967 war with Syria.

The terrorist element's activities posed a threat to the State of Israel and its citizens, and the army will continue to work to remove any threat to the State of Israel, said the army's Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, on his X account.

In the meantime, some media outlets reported circular flights of Israeli drones since dawn over the towns of Meidoun, Shoukeen, Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, Ali al-Taher, Kfar Tibnit, Arnoun, and Yohmor al-Shqif in southern Lebanon.
