American actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner has died at age 54 while vacationing in Costa Rica. He was best known for playing Theo on the hit series The Cosby Show.

American actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his supporting role on The Cosby Show, has died after accidentally drowning in Costa Rica, local police announced Monday.
The 54-year-old actor played Theo, the youngest son in the Huxtable family, on the iconic 1980s sitcom. He was nominated for an Emmy Award, the television equivalent of the Oscars, for his performance in the role.
Authorities said Warner died Sunday from «asphyxiation» after drowning at Cocles Beach in Cahuita, in the country’s southeast, according to a report from Costa Rica’s judicial police.
“A current apparently pulled him out to sea» while he was swimming, the report stated. Bystanders pulled him from the water, but Red Cross responders later confirmed he had «no signs of life.”
According to American celebrity media, Warner had been on vacation in Costa Rica.
His representatives did not immediately respond when contacted by AFP.

The Cosby Show defined a generation of American television, chronicling the lives of an upper-middle-class Black family.
After the series ended, Warner continued working steadily as an actor. He starred in his own sitcom, Malcolm & Eddie, and made appearances in shows like Sons of Anarchy.
