The Israeli army announced on Thursday that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen, just days after carrying out a series of attacks on Houthi infrastructure in the country. The attack was claimed by the Yemeni group.

"Following the recent activation of warning sirens in several regions of Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted," the army said on its X account.

Early Monday, the Israeli military had bombed the port of Hodeidah and other areas under the control of the Iranian-backed Yemeni insurgents, who responded with missile fire that was also intercepted.

Since late 2023, the Houthis have been regularly launching missiles toward Israel, most of which have been intercepted before entering Israeli airspace. They have also attacked ships deemed linked to the Jewish state, claiming to act in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, where the Israeli army is at war with Hamas.

The Yemeni group claimed responsibility on Wednesday for an attack on a merchant vessel in the Red Sea, the second such incident in 24 hours in this critical maritime trade route.
