Israeli airstrikes pounded Iran’s capital early Wednesday, just a day after U.S. President Donald Trump called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

A powerful explosion echoed through Tehran around 5 a.m., following a series of blasts that shook the city during the early hours before dawn.

One of the strikes appeared to hit the eastern neighborhood of Hakimiyeh, home to a training academy run by Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.

Earlier, Israel had warned it might target an area south of Mehrabad International Airport, which contains residential zones, military facilities, pharmaceutical plants, and various industrial companies.

Israel also claimed responsibility for killing Iranian General Ali Shadmani in Tehran, identifying him as the most senior military commander still active in the country.
