The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, stated from Beirut’s International Airport on Saturday that "no decision to close Beirut Airport is being considered," except in the case of a "major and/or unforeseen event.”
When asked about the congestion observed at the airport, he explained that "chaos is normal after the closure of airspace," while assuring that the situation would be resolved within the coming hours.
This statement comes as strikes between Israel and Iran continue for a second day, significantly impacting air traffic in the region and Lebanon.
No Flights to Baghdad and Erbil Until Further Notice
In a statement issued on Saturday, June 14, the Middle East Airlines (MEA) announced that "all its flights departing from Beirut will resume starting 1:00 PM, while arrivals to the Lebanese capital will resume at 2:00 PM."
However, all flights to and from Baghdad and Erbil, Iraq, "are canceled" on Saturday, June 14, the airline confirmed in a statement.
Additionally, MEA urges passengers to review the revised schedules, canceled flights and the rescheduling of flights heading to Beirut, which will be announced progressively based on the evolving situation on the ground.
