US President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday about Iran, according to a White House official as reported by Reuters.

The call occurred as Trump sought to expedite aid to Gaza and persuade Iran to abandon its nuclear program.

Trump said he is actively engaged in efforts involving Iran, describing Tehran’s negotiating team as “tough.”

The U.S. president emphasized the intensity of ongoing discussions, stating, “I’m doing a lot of work with Iran now, and their negotiating team is tough.”

He announced that discussions with Tehran will resume on Thursday. U.S. news site Axios later reported that the talks were expected to take place either in Oslo on Friday or in Oman on Sunday.

Following the conversation, Netanyahu will convene a security meeting with Defense Minister Israel Katz, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and other senior officials, including Chief of Staff, Mossad Director, and Shin Bet Head, Israeli media reported.

Iran's National Security Council on the same day, had issued a stark warning, stating that any secret nuclear facilities belonging to the country will be considered direct targets for retaliation in the event of an attack against Iran.

In a previous phone call in May, following the shooting of two Israeli embassy workers in Washington, Trump had warned Netanyahu against actions that could jeopardize US-Iran nuclear talks, The Jerusalem Post reported. Trump advised Netanyahu that “this is not the time to escalate the situation” while working on resolving the issues.

Trump emphasized his preference for a diplomatic solution, adding that “the second option is still on the table,” but he urged Netanyahu to act cautiously.
