The Lebanese Army announced in a statement on Thursday that a specialized military unit dismantled an Israeli espionage device found in the outskirts of the southern town of Yaroun, in the district of Bint Jbeil.. The device was equipped with a camera and discovered during engineering survey operations in the region.
“The unit acted swiftly to dismantle the surveillance equipment,” the statement added.
The Army Command reiterated its call for citizens to avoid approaching or handling suspicious objects. It also urged citizens to immediately report such findings to the nearest military post to ensure public safety.
Earlier Thursday an Israeli airstrike in south Lebanon struck a Renault Rapid vehicle near a school in the town of Qalawieh in Bint Jbeil district, inflicting minor injuries on the driver.
The attack occurred following a series of overnight Israeli military operations in areas east of Mays al-Jabal, in the Marjayoun district.
At approximately 11:30 PM on Wednesday, an Israeli infantry unit reportedly crossed into Lebanese territory in the Kroum al-Mrah area. The soldiers conducted searches near the barbed wire fence before retreating from the zone, according to local sources.
Roughly 20 minutes later, a second Israeli patrol – this time accompanied by two bulldozers and two military vehicles – breached the technical fence in the nearby Kroum al-Sharki area. The unit is said to have destroyed olive groves, dug a large trench, and erected an earthen barrier.
In response, the Lebanese Army deployed to the area overnight, dispatching reinforcements and implementing precautionary measures. According to security sources, the army is expected to backfill the trench and restore the terrain affected by the incursion.
