An Israeli unit, backed by two Merkava tanks and a bulldozer, carried out an incursion Wednesday night east of the village of Blida, in South Lebanon, in an area known as Bir Chaib.
The Israeli force advanced approximately 200 meters into Lebanese territory, not far from a Lebanese Army outpost, which was placed on high alert.
An additional Lebanese military unit was dispatched to the area to prevent the Israelis from setting up an earth barrier and maintaining a presence in the sector.
A UNIFIL patrol quickly followed, as efforts were launched to pressure the Israeli unit to withdraw.
