Prime Minister Nawaf Salam cast his vote this morning at Omar Fakhoury High School in Burj Hassan during Beirut’s municipal and mukhtar elections.
He stated that the elections aim to serve the city, promote its development and meet the needs of its residents. When asked about the issue of equal representation in the Beirut Municipal Council, he expressed confidence that Beirut’s citizens would ensure fair representation for all.
Salam stressed that these elections are a real chance for Beirutis to express their choice for their city’s future. He noted that it is the government’s role to serve the people, not the other way around, describing the elections as a “purely developmental choice.”
He pointed to Beirut’s urgent needs, from potholes and waste issues to traffic congestion, and called on citizens to vote in large numbers. “This is the day to decide what kind of city they want. They must not miss this opportunity,” he said.
Regarding political alliances, he reaffirmed the government’s neutrality, clarifying that no ministers are candidates or have endorsed any list, but as a Beirut resident, his personal stance favors “comprehensive development for the city.”
He also called for a fast and transparent vote-counting process, acknowledging past issues in areas like Tripoli and hoping Beirut’s results would be clear and timely.
