French director Florian Zeller is back with a new project titled The Bunker, bringing real-life couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz together on screen. Filmed in London and Madrid, the psychological thriller is set for release in 2026.
Filmmaker Florian Zeller will reunite real-life couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz on screen in his upcoming film titled The Bunker, the production team announced Friday to AFP.
Zeller, who comes from a background in writing and theater, gained international acclaim with his first film, The Father, which earned Anthony Hopkins an Academy Award. His second feature, The Son, also adapted from one of his plays and starring Hugh Jackman, Vanessa Kirby, and Laura Dern, met with more modest success.
The Bunker, which will be filmed in London and Madrid and is scheduled for release in 2026, brings together the two Spanish actors—one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples—who have previously starred together in films like Jamon Jamon and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
The story centers on a Spanish architect living with his family in London who is asked to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire. The project deeply impacts the relationship between the architect and his wife.
"The Bunker is a psychological thriller that explores how a couple is tested by the pressures of today’s world," the producers said. "It delves into the fears, doubts, and dilemmas that define our time."
