There are signatures that are worth much more than a simple exchange of documents. The one that took place this week at the headquarters of the International Maritime Academy in Portemilio, Kaslik, in the presence of leading academic and sports figures, is the perfect example. The institution, presided over by Pierre Akl, has sealed a strategic partnership with the Sports Academy School, represented by its director, Georges Assaf.
Objective of the agreement? To combine expertise from the maritime domain and the sports field, in order to create an unprecedented synergy in terms of professional training. A win-win alliance, designed to offer young Lebanese people concrete opportunities and a solid foundation in future-oriented fields.
“The sports dynamic is evolving at full speed in Lebanon,” emphasized Pierre Akl in opening the ceremony. “This cooperation goes in the direction of history. It will give rise to real opportunities for graduates, in a market lacking qualified skills.”
Heading Towards 2025–2026
For his part, Georges Assaf retraced the path of the Sports Academy School, founded in 2018, which has already trained hundreds of students in sports professions. “With this partnership, we are going to take a step forward. The first courses are planned for October 2025. The start of the academic year promises to be ambitious.”
Training a Generation in the Values of Sports
Zeina Mina, founder of the Sports Academy School, emphasized the central role of training in the development of Lebanese sports. “Our institution has managed to find its place in the educational landscape. Today, this collaboration marks a new stage to further anchor the sports culture in education.”
Alongside the leaders of the two academies were also Eliane Khattar, executive director of the International Maritime Academy, several officials, as well as a crowd of journalists and professionals from the field.
A Spotlight on Professional Training
Beyond the symbol, this agreement opens the way to a real accelerator for specialized education in Lebanon, by combining academic rigor and sports excellence. It aims to make Lebanon a regional platform for technical training in two high-potential fields: the sea and sports.
