Telecommunications Minister Charles Hage held an extended meeting on Friday with the newly elected board of the mobile telecom employees’ union, in the presence of the management teams from both Alfa and Touch. The meeting addressed employee rights, sector reform, and the need for a model based on merit and productivity.

In his remarks, the minister congratulated the new union leadership on taking office and reaffirmed his commitment to seriously addressing the issues of salaries and workers’ rights. He emphasized the importance of ensuring fairness in promotions based on meritocracy and noted that he had been tasked by the state to manage this strategic sector in a way that serves both employees and the industry as a whole.

Hage urged union representatives to prioritize dialogue as the main approach to resolving disputes, steering clear of tension or disruptions. “Good faith and constructive dialogue can lead to tangible solutions that benefit everyone,” he stated.

He also highlighted the urgent need to boost productivity and service quality during this critical phase and called on both operators to propose a new administrative structure rooted in competence and merit.

The minister advocated for close cooperation between the union and the management of Alfa and Touch, stressing the value of a partnership-based approach to advancing the sector. He also reiterated his commitment to reactivating the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and moving forward with the long-awaited creation of Liban Telecom, a key project aimed at restructuring Lebanon’s telecom landscape.
